September 17, 2011, the Jersey Shore Roller Girls' Beat Down hosts the Ithaca League of Women Rollers' Bluestockings at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park.  This is the debut home bout for the Beat Down, who is half way through their second season (as is the Bluestockings) and both teams come from leagues that are celebrating newly acquired status as official members of WFTDA.

Captain, Joy Kill Her, of the Beat Down, kicks off the evening with a 4 point jam, to the Bluestockings 0.  The second jam of the evening begins with the Beat Down minus two skaters (both Pinky and the Pain, and Dezdemona Lot are sent to the box at the beginning of the jam) and the Bluestockings hold back the Beat Down's jammer,co-captain  Wicked Kitty, while their own jammer, Nuclear Wintercourse, makes her scoring pass and calls the jam off before Wicked Kitty can score.  Both teams enter the third jam evenly matched, with a score of 4-4.  Joy leads off the third jam of the night, and the Beat Down defense manages to catch and hold back Bluestocking jammer, Hurricane Katrina, as Joy Kill Her breaks through the Bluestocking defense without much resistance and makes three scoring passes, lapping Hurricane Katrina twice, before she calls off the jam.

 In the jams that follow, Cool Mo T. manages to secure lead jammer status for the Beat Down, followed by Wicked Kitty (who is assisted by Steel Wheels) but is sent to the box.  The Beat Down walls up in the front of the pack and keeps the pack speed moving, BeeBee Gun, the Bluestocking's jammer is able to lap the pack and complete her initial scoring pass, but she gets caught up at the back of the pack, where she stays until Wicked Kitty re-enters from the box and calls the off the jam.

Ten minutes into the game, the score is a respectable 23-22 (Beat Down) and Wicked Kitty is sent in to jam for the Beat Down (Nuclear Wintercourse will start this jam in the penalty box.)  Beat Down takes a knee, forcing the jam whistle, and as Wicked Kitty breaks through the pack, the Beat Down quickly walls up and brings the speed of the pack to a crawl.  Wicked Kitty takes her first scoring pass up the inside line, and is met with little resistance from the Bluestocking defense. The Beat Down uses the Bluestocking's Shankher Woman as a runt, allowing Wicked Kitty to catch the pack again and make a second scoring pass, and she is finally caught and knocked down by the Bluestocking pivot, just as Nuclear Wintercourse re-enters the track. Wicked Kitty calls off the jam.  

In the 10th jam of the night, the pack takes off very slowly, BeeBee Gun is able to break through first and secure lead jammer status for the Bluestockings, but Wicked Kitty is not far behind her.  BeeBee back blocks the Beat Down's Trigger Hippie, earning herself a trip to the penalty box, and allowing the Beat Down another massive scoring opportunity.  Bash N Onya and Koopa Troopa scramble to control the front of the pack, Nikki Sixx Ft. Under plays offense and Wicked Kitty is able to make three scoring passes before the jam ends and BeeBee can score. 

Jam number 12 sees Joy Kill Her jamming for the Beat Down, and BeeBee Gun jamming for the Bluestockings in what will become yet another big power play for the Beat Down.  Joy Kill Her immediately earns lead jammer status, and BeeBee Gun is sent to the penalty box, the Beat Down is able to use Loco Rococo as a runt, and keep the pack speed slow, allowing Joy Kill Her to make three scoring passes before BeeBee Gun re-enters the pack and Joy calls off the jam.

In an interesting play at the end of the first half, the Bluestocking's send in one of their power blockers, Motley Crouton, to jam against the Beat Down's Joy Kill Her.  Joy earns lead jammer status, but Motley Crouton follows her out of the pack and is able to get in front of her and booty block her as she tries to lap the pack.  Joy Kill Her is forced to call off the jam.

With 3 minutes remaining in the first half, and the Beat Down in the lead with a score of 92-33, Wicked Kitty takes lead jammer status for the Beat Down, while Bluestocking's jammer, Sugar Blitz gets caught behind Cool Mo T. and Koopa Troopa.  Trigger Hippie quickly joins their wall and they are able to hold Sugar Blitz back as Wicked Kitty easily completes two scoring passes and calls off the jam. 

In the final jam of the first half, Wicked Kitty manages to break from the pack first and complete a scoring pass while Bluestocking jammer, Bunny Leboutski, is trapped and held back by Whippin Wheels, Dezdemona Lot and Scarlet Destruction.  Bunny finally manages to break from the pack, and is awarded lead jammer status, but is forced to call off the jam before she can complete her initial scoring pass, ending the first half with a score of 109 for the Beat Down and 36 for the Bluestockings.

The first jam of the second half ends in a power play, with the Beat Down's Joy earning 13 to the Bluestocking's BeeBee 0, but the second jam and third jams of the second half will go to the Bluestockings, who complete a massive power play, earning 10 points, and then secure lead jammer for a second play, again preventing the Beat Down from scoring.

For the better part of this quarter, the Beat Down will earn lead jammer status for the majority of the jams, but the Bluestocking defense steps up and is able to keep the point spread to a minimum.  A majority of the jams are limited to single scoring passes (or no scoring passes), and with 16 minutes remaining in the half, the score is 142-55.

Wicked Kitty jams for the Beat Down, and Cold War jams for the Bluestockings.  Wicked Kitty makes it through her initial pass un-opposed and secures lead jam while Cold War trips over her own blocker, Nuclear Wintercourse, and is then trapped behind Nikki Sixx Ft Under and Pinky and the Pain, allowing Wicked Kitty to complete a scoring pass before she calls off the jam.   In a similar play, Koopa Troopa is able to make it through a reduced pack of Bluestockings (they start off the jam with two blockers in the box) and her teammates Whippin Wheels, Dezdemona Lot and Bash N. Onya are able to hold the Bluestocking's jammer, Sugar Blitz, back as Koopa Troopa completes a scoring pass and calls off the jam.  The next jam has Joy Kill Her taking lead jam over Bluestocking's Rainbow Might, completing a scoring pass before calling off the jam.

The next three lead jams are secured by the Bluestockings, but the Beat Down jammers manage to stay close enough to the Bluestocking's jammers that the jams are called off quickly and the amount of points scored remains very low.

With 7.5 minutes remaining, the score is 168-60, and Joy Kill Her earns lead jam for the Beat Down, but with Cold War close behind her she is forced to call off the jam prematurely, scoring only one point in this jam.  Then it's Koopa Troopa's turn to earn lead jam for the Beat Down, but she quickly calls of the jam when she gets knocked down during her initial scoring pass.  Next, Wicked Kitty secures lead jam for the Beatdown, beating out the Bluestocking's Rainbow Might. Kitty makes it to the front of the pack for her initial scoring pass, with some offensive help from Joy Kill Her and Nikki Six Ft Under, and she calls the jam off.

Then the Beat Down sends Whippin Wheels to the jam line, where she shoots to the front of the pack but is thwarted by Thunder Vittles, allowing Sugar Blitz to secure lead jam, lap the pack and complete most of her initial scoring pass before she is struck down by Bash N Onya.  Wheels finally breaks free and Sugar Blitz calls off the jam. 

With 2 minutes remaining, the Beat Down sends power blocker Pinky and the Pain to the jam line, her teammate Bash N Onya attempts to break up a wall of Bluestockings for her, and catches Bluestocking jammer Bunny Leboutski in the process.  Bunny gets lead jam, but calls off the jam when she gets knocked down.

With a minute and 30 seconds left on the clock, and a score of 174 to 68, the Beat Down sends blocker Trigger Hippie to the jam line, where she is up against Bluestocking jammer Rainbow Might.  Trigger fouls and is immediately sent to the penalty box while Rainbow easily takes the inside line and earns lead jammer status.   On Rainbow's initial scoring pass, Kitty and Dez are able to catch her at the front of the pack, but Motley Crouton clears the block, freeing her jammer up for a second scoring pass before she calls off the jam.

The Bluestockings manage a significant power play in the last jam of the game.  With one second remaining on the clock, and Trigger Hippie standing in the box waiting to re-enter the pack as the Beat Down's jammer, the Bluestockings take a knee, forcing the jam whistle, and allowing Sugar Blitz to take off into the pack.  Defensive blockers, Joy and Shirley B. Brutal are able to catch her at the front of the pack, while Trigger Hippie enters the track from the penalty box.  Trigger is immediately knocked down by Pshychodelic Nightmare, who holds her at the back of the pack while Sugar finally breaks past Joy and Shirley and laps the pack.  As Sugar begins her scoring pass, Trigger is sent back to the box, and while Joy and Shirley are able to detain Sugar at the front of the pack again, it's not enough, and she manages a second scoring pass. The  Beat Down tries to break away and pick up the pack speed, but the Bluestockings use Steel Wheels as a runt, and hold the pack back for their jammer, who is able to make a final pass, before getting knocked down by Shirley, ending the game with a brilliant 14-0 power jam in the Bluestocking's favor. 

The Beat Down dominated the first half by controlling the lead jammer status, and accumulating large point spreads through big power plays.  Bluestocking's came back strong in the second half, securing far more lead jams than they had in the first half, keeping the Beat Down's scoring laps limited, and ending the game with a huge power play, but it just wasn't enough to make up for the massive point spread that the Beat Down had racked up during the first half.  The Beat Down would end their debut home game with a victorious 174 points over the Bluestocking's 92.

Jersey Shore Roller Girls Joins Women's Flat Track Derby Association

Asbury Park, NJ—September 2, 2011— The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is proud to announce that Jersey Shore Roller Girls (JSRG) has been accepted as a member of the WFTDA, the national governing body for women's amateur flat track roller derby in the U.S.

As a new member of the WFTDA, Jersey Shore Roller Girls joins the ranks of over 75 all-female, skater owned and operated leagues nationwide that have united to lead the growing sport of women's flat track roller derby.  WFTDA member leagues engage in sanctioned interleague play, including regional and national tournaments.  Jersey Shore Roller Girls will be a Class B member in the East region.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls are set to host their first home game as a full WFTDA member on Saturday, September 17^th in Asbury Park’s Convention Hall. The Ithaca League of Women Rollers, also newly graduated from the WFTDA apprentice program, will be sending their Bluestockings to take on JSRG’s Beat Down. About the Jersey Shore Roller Girls
Jersey Shore Roller Girls is an all-women, flat-track roller derby league that was born in 2007 from the dreams of four women with a love for roller derby. JSRG is now more than 70 women with membership stretching from Monmouth and Ocean to Mercer, Atlantic and surrounding counties. The league consists of three intraleague teams (Anchor Assassins, Murder Beach Militia, & Right Coast Rollers) and two travel teams (A team – All Stars, B team – Beat Down) and is completely skater owned and operated.
