The biggest event in modern Roller Derby since its inception 10 years ago in Austin, Texas takes place this Thursday through Sunday in Toronto with the 1st invitational Roller DerbyWorld Cup. Coming together will be 20-member teams and support from 13 nations, representing the 1110 leagues and 38 countries and some 60,000 participants demonstrating how our favorite pastime is now the fastest growing competitive sport in the world!! September 17, 2011, the Jersey Shore Roller Girls' Beat Down hosts the Ithaca League of Women Rollers' Bluestockings at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park. This is the debut home bout for the Beat Down, who is half way through their second season (as is the Bluestockings) and both teams come from leagues that are celebrating newly acquired status as official members of WFTDA.

Captain, Joy Kill Her, of the Beat Down, kicks off the evening with a 4 point jam, to the Bluestockings 0. The second jam of the evening begins with the Beat Down minus two skaters (both Pinky and the Pain, and Dezdemona Lot are sent to the box at the beginning of the jam) and the Bluestockings hold back the Beat Down's jammer,co-captain Wicked Kitty, while their own jammer, Nuclear Wintercourse, makes her scoring pass and calls the jam off before Wicked Kitty can score. Both teams enter the third jam evenly matched, with a score of 4-4. Joy leads off the third jam of the night, and the Beat Down defense manages to catch and hold back Bluestocking jammer, Hurricane Katrina, as Joy Kill Her breaks through the Bluestocking defense without much resistance and makes three scoring passes, lapping Hurricane Katrina twice, before she calls off the jam.

In the jams that follow, Cool Mo T. manages to secure lead jammer status for the Beat Down, followed by Wicked Kitty (who is assisted by Steel Wheels) but is sent to the box. The Beat Down walls up in the front of the pack and keeps the pack speed moving, BeeBee Gun, the Bluestocking's jammer is able to lap the pack and complete her initial scoring pass, but she gets caught up at the back of the pack, where she stays until Wicked Kitty re-enters from the box and calls the off the jam.

Ten minutes into the game, the score is a respectable 23-22 (Beat Down) and Wicked Kitty is sent in to jam for the Beat Down (Nuclear Wintercourse will start this jam in the penalty box.) Beat Down takes a knee, forcing the jam whistle, and as Wicked Kitty breaks through the pack, the Beat Down quickly walls up and brings the speed of the pack to a crawl. Wicked Kitty takes her first scoring pass up the inside line, and is met with little resistance from the Bluestocking defense. The Beat Down uses the Bluestocking's Shankher Woman as a runt, allowing Wicked Kitty to catch the pack again and make a second scoring pass, and she is finally caught and knocked down by the Bluestocking pivot, just as Nuclear Wintercourse re-enters the track. Wicked Kitty calls off the jam.

In the 10th jam of the night, the pack takes off very slowly, BeeBee Gun is able to break through first and secure lead jammer status for the Bluestockings, but Wicked Kitty is not far behind her. BeeBee back blocks the Beat Down's Trigger Hippie, earning herself a trip to the penalty box, and allowing the Beat Down another massive scoring opportunity. Bash N Onya and Koopa Troopa scramble to control the front of the pack, Nikki Sixx Ft. Under plays offense and Wicked Kitty is able to make three scoring passes before the jam ends and BeeBee can score.

Jam number 12 sees Joy Kill Her jamming for the Beat Down, and BeeBee Gun jamming for the Bluestockings in what will become yet another big power play for the Beat Down. Joy Kill Her immediately earns lead jammer status, and BeeBee Gun is sent to the penalty box, the Beat Down is able to use Loco Rococo as a runt, and keep the pack speed slow, allowing Joy Kill Her to make three scoring passes before BeeBee Gun re-enters the pack and Joy calls off the jam.

In an interesting play at the end of the first half, the Bluestocking's send in one of their power blockers, Motley Crouton, to jam against the Beat Down's Joy Kill Her. Joy earns lead jammer status, but Motley Crouton follows her out of the pack and is able to get in front of her and booty block her as she tries to lap the pack. Joy Kill Her is forced to call off the jam.

With 3 minutes remaining in the first half, and the Beat Down in the lead with a score of 92-33, Wicked Kitty takes lead jammer status for the Beat Down, while Bluestocking's jammer, Sugar Blitz gets caught behind Cool Mo T. and Koopa Troopa. Trigger Hippie quickly joins their wall and they are able to hold Sugar Blitz back as Wicked Kitty easily completes two scoring passes and calls off the jam.

In the final jam of the first half, Wicked Kitty manages to break from the pack first and complete a scoring pass while Bluestocking jammer, Bunny Leboutski, is trapped and held back by Whippin Wheels, Dezdemona Lot and Scarlet Destruction. Bunny finally manages to break from the pack, and is awarded lead jammer status, but is forced to call off the jam before she can complete her initial scoring pass, ending the first half with a score of 109 for the Beat Down and 36 for the Bluestockings.

The first jam of the second half ends in a power play, with the Beat Down's Joy earning 13 to the Bluestocking's BeeBee 0, but the second jam and third jams of the second half will go to the Bluestockings, who complete a massive power play, earning 10 points, and then secure lead jammer for a second play, again preventing the Beat Down from scoring.

For the better part of this quarter, the Beat Down will earn lead jammer status for the majority of the jams, but the Bluestocking defense steps up and is able to keep the point spread to a minimum. A majority of the jams are limited to single scoring passes (or no scoring passes), and with 16 minutes remaining in the half, the score is 142-55.

Wicked Kitty jams for the Beat Down, and Cold War jams for the Bluestockings. Wicked Kitty makes it through her initial pass un-opposed and secures lead jam while Cold War trips over her own blocker, Nuclear Wintercourse, and is then trapped behind Nikki Sixx Ft Under and Pinky and the Pain, allowing Wicked Kitty to complete a scoring pass before she calls off the jam. In a similar play, Koopa Troopa is able to make it through a reduced pack of Bluestockings (they start off the jam with two blockers in the box) and her teammates Whippin Wheels, Dezdemona Lot and Bash N. Onya are able to hold the Bluestocking's jammer, Sugar Blitz, back as Koopa Troopa completes a scoring pass and calls off the jam. The next jam has Joy Kill Her taking lead jam over Bluestocking's Rainbow Might, completing a scoring pass before calling off the jam.

The next three lead jams are secured by the Bluestockings, but the Beat Down jammers manage to stay close enough to the Bluestocking's jammers that the jams are called off quickly and the amount of points scored remains very low.

With 7.5 minutes remaining, the score is 168-60, and Joy Kill Her earns lead jam for the Beat Down, but with Cold War close behind her she is forced to call off the jam prematurely, scoring only one point in this jam. Then it's Koopa Troopa's turn to earn lead jam for the Beat Down, but she quickly calls of the jam when she gets knocked down during her initial scoring pass. Next, Wicked Kitty secures lead jam for the Beatdown, beating out the Bluestocking's Rainbow Might. Kitty makes it to the front of the pack for her initial scoring pass, with some offensive help from Joy Kill Her and Nikki Six Ft Under, and she calls the jam off.

Then the Beat Down sends Whippin Wheels to the jam line, where she shoots to the front of the pack but is thwarted by Thunder Vittles, allowing Sugar Blitz to secure lead jam, lap the pack and complete most of her initial scoring pass before she is struck down by Bash N Onya. Wheels finally breaks free and Sugar Blitz calls off the jam.

With 2 minutes remaining, the Beat Down sends power blocker Pinky and the Pain to the jam line, her teammate Bash N Onya attempts to break up a wall of Bluestockings for her, and catches Bluestocking jammer Bunny Leboutski in the process. Bunny gets lead jam, but calls off the jam when she gets knocked down.

With a minute and 30 seconds left on the clock, and a score of 174 to 68, the Beat Down sends blocker Trigger Hippie to the jam line, where she is up against Bluestocking jammer Rainbow Might. Trigger fouls and is immediately sent to the penalty box while Rainbow easily takes the inside line and earns lead jammer status. On Rainbow's initial scoring pass, Kitty and Dez are able to catch her at the front of the pack, but Motley Crouton clears the block, freeing her jammer up for a second scoring pass before she calls off the jam.

The Bluestockings manage a significant power play in the last jam of the game. With one second remaining on the clock, and Trigger Hippie standing in the box waiting to re-enter the pack as the Beat Down's jammer, the Bluestockings take a knee, forcing the jam whistle, and allowing Sugar Blitz to take off into the pack. Defensive blockers, Joy and Shirley B. Brutal are able to catch her at the front of the pack, while Trigger Hippie enters the track from the penalty box. Trigger is immediately knocked down by Pshychodelic Nightmare, who holds her at the back of the pack while Sugar finally breaks past Joy and Shirley and laps the pack. As Sugar begins her scoring pass, Trigger is sent back to the box, and while Joy and Shirley are able to detain Sugar at the front of the pack again, it's not enough, and she manages a second scoring pass. The Beat Down tries to break away and pick up the pack speed, but the Bluestockings use Steel Wheels as a runt, and hold the pack back for their jammer, who is able to make a final pass, before getting knocked down by Shirley, ending the game with a brilliant 14-0 power jam in the Bluestocking's favor.

The Beat Down dominated the first half by controlling the lead jammer status, and accumulating large point spreads through big power plays. Bluestocking's came back strong in the second half, securing far more lead jams than they had in the first half, keeping the Beat Down's scoring laps limited, and ending the game with a huge power play, but it just wasn't enough to make up for the massive point spread that the Beat Down had racked up during the first half. The Beat Down would end their debut home game with a victorious 174 points over the Bluestocking's 92.

Jersey Shore Roller Girls Joins Women's Flat Track Derby Association

Asbury Park, NJ—September 2, 2011— The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is proud to announce that Jersey Shore Roller Girls (JSRG) has been accepted as a member of the WFTDA, the national governing body for women's amateur flat track roller derby in the U.S.

As a new member of the WFTDA, Jersey Shore Roller Girls joins the ranks of over 75 all-female, skater owned and operated leagues nationwide that have united to lead the growing sport of women's flat track roller derby. WFTDA member leagues engage in sanctioned interleague play, including regional and national tournaments. Jersey Shore Roller Girls will be a Class B member in the East region.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls are set to host their first home game as a full WFTDA member on Saturday, September 17^th in Asbury Park’s Convention Hall. The Ithaca League of Women Rollers, also newly graduated from the WFTDA apprentice program, will be sending their Bluestockings to take on JSRG’s Beat Down. Jersey Shore Roller Girls take on Suburbia Roller Derby - July 23rd in Asbury Park

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls will battle it out at Asbury Park's Convention Hall this Saturday, July 23rd against the Suburban Brawl (currently ranked 12th in the East by WFTDA) from Suburbia Roller Derby (Yonkers, NY) !! The last time these two fierce teams met (in 2009), tempers flared, helmets flew, and ultimately Suburbia came out victorious with a definitive 158-23 win. With two more years of training and the support of the fantastic fans at home, the Jersey girls will be ready to deliver a performance they can be proud of on their quest for redemption. This is bound to be one of the fastest, roughest bouts of the season! As if the bout, boardwalk, and beach weren't enough (not to mention the ever possible visit from the Boss himself), the crowd will also be treated to the regular set of family-friendly shenanigans including the kilt-loving bag-pipers and the Chuck-A-Duck half time game after which the winner will receive a free gift basket full of JSRG goodies!!

JSRG will be bringing out their biggest talent for this evening of women's roller derby. As they look to replace the loveable, charismatic Bertha Control (sadly leaving for the majestic mountains of New Mexico), JSRG will have a fresh sound for the evening with some old favorites and some visiting friends including former JSRG rock star – Bone Saw and the always fabulous, multi-talented Chesty McBruiser. While these ladies call the play by play action, keep your eyes peeled for the amazing team of indefatigable JSRG jammers; Push Popp, Ciri L Killer, and M8T. The Jersey Shore Roller Girls host their first summer smack down of the season on Saturday, June 18^th at Asbury Park’s Convention Hall!! This bout will determine if the 2009, 2010 Champion, Murder Beach Militia, will make it to this year’s Championship Bout (November 26^th). After a devastating 134-163 loss to the Anchor Assassins in March, Murder Beach is gearing back up to take on the heavy-hitting Right Coast Rollers. Murder Beach has been plagued with a number of injuries this season but these soldiers of derby are trained and ready for any battle, especially with the help of a few borrowed league-mates. Come out to see all your MBM favorites including the super-swift M8T, the daring Nikki Sixx Ft. Under, the explosive Scarlet Destruction and the die-hard Murder Beach Captain, Black Eye Betty.

Right Coast, on the other hand, has spent the season rebuilding and are sure to give Murder Beach a run for their money with this new team. You will see some fresh faces like Pinky and the Pain, Sai A. Nide and Hubba Hubba along with all the old favorites including the recently returned Tamel Toe Stomper and Cool Mo T. Thanks to a recent draft, Right Coast even has a couple new “killers” including; Toastface Killah – formerly of Murder Beach Militia and Joy KillHer – formerly of the Anchor Assassins. Spoiler alert!!! – See the crowd favorite RCR blocker HotRod Hussy and she steps into the high-pressure jammer position!! The Jersey Shore Roller Girls are at it again! Their 4th season is set to open on March 26th with another powerful display of grace and grit as the Murder Beach Militia take on the Anchor Assassins in Asbury Park's legendary Convention Hall. The bout will be a rematch of last year's nail-biting Championship Bout in which Murder Beach Militia eked out a five point win over the relentless Anchor Assassins. This season opener is sure to deliver 60 minutes of lightning-fast, hard-hitting, heart-pounding Roller Derby action. Don't worry, you'll have a chance to catch your breath during Soup's Internationally Known, Dog Catcher, Silver String, Submarine, All Start Competition Bagpipe Band entertainment and the family-favorite Chuck-A-Duck half-time event.

As always, the Jersey Shore Roller Girls - made up of hard working women from Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, Mercer and surrounding counties - have partnered with a charity for this bout to support and promote a very worthy cause. The Aug. 28 bout between Murder Beach Militia and Right Coast Rollers would determine who would claim a spot in the Season Championship bout this coming November.

Right Coast Rollers led by Bench Managers Rollin’ Rican and Zombicidal Maniac mixed some veterans, debut skaters and borrowed skaters to try to seal the win. Captain Cool Mo T and Co-Captain Bash N. Onya, along with veterans Chelle Be Evil, Malicious Megs, Shermaine Tank, Jack & Choke, and Hot Rod Hussy held the team together while successfully incorporating new comers Molly Stitcher, Dezdemona Lott, Koopa Troopa, and Disco Volante. Anchor Assassin veterans Joy Kill Her and Belle Maul Her rounded out the roster competing for the coveted championship slot.

Murder Beach Militia Bench Managers Ciri L. Killer and Psychopath Lynn came to the table with a full veteran roster welcoming only one debut skater Quad Complex. Captain and Co-Captain Black Eye Betty and Ricin Beans led the team of skaters including AC Skater, M8T, Nikki Sixx Feet Under, Jersey Violet, Toastface Killah, Trigger Hippie, Chesty McBruiser, Push Popp, Scarlet Destruction, Wicked Kitty and Alabama Whirley. With such a seasoned roster Murder Beach Militia was determined to take this bout and call it a win.

Murder Beach Militia’s Jammer Push Popp grabbed hold of the lead in the first jam with gaining 9 points to Right Coast Rollers 0, was immediately followed up by another jam lead by Murder Beach’s M8T. Right Coast Jammers Chelle Be Evil and Shermaine Tank took lead in the next two jams bringing the score to Murder Beach 14 to Right Coast 8.

Push Popp gained lead jammer next go around with the help of her blockers Jersey Violet and Chesty McBruiser who made a Murder Beach jam sandwich with Right Coast jammer Joy Kill Her in the middle.

Murder Beach jammer M8T continued the trend as lead jammer, as the debut was made by Murder Beach Quad Complex. Push Popp, M8T and Ricin Beans continually grabbed lead jammer making Murder Beach the leaders with 34 to only 8 for Right Coast.

Chelle Be Evil was able to take the lead in the next bout bumping up Right Coast to 12 points. But Murder Beach’s M8T made the way to lead again, with Right Coast jammer Shermaine Tank in the penalty box, only after M8T was taken down by Malicious Megs and Hot Rod Hussy, and then Tank halted by Chesty McBruiser bringing Murder Beach to 49 points to 13 for Right Coast.

Murder Beach’s Push Popp grabbed lead jammer with the help of Scarlet Destruction who took out Right Coast Roller jammer Shermaine Tank. Push Popp also helped herself out by hitting Right Coast’s Dezdemona Lott out her way.

With a tradeoff of lead jammer between Murder Beach’s Push Popp and Right Coast’s Shermaine Tank in the next few jams the score was brought to 63 Murder Beach to 30 Right Coast.

Twelve points were gained by Murder Beach’s M8T in the next jam as Right Coast Rollers had 2 blockers and their jammer Chelle Be Evil all in the box. Push Popp added to that 12 in the next jam bringing the score to 79 to 32 for Murder Beach.

Taking turns in the box, Murder Beach then had 2 blockers and 1 jammer in the next jam allowing Chelle Be Evil of Right Coast to take lead jammer and score a grand slam. Black Eye Betty tried her best to hold Chelle Be Evil’s points down by knocking her out of bounds and strategically keeping her out of bounds for a few seconds, ending the first half with a score of 79 to 37 with Murder Beach holding the lead.

The second half found us with many shorter jams as most were called off by lead jammer before the 2 minute clock had run down. Trading off lead jammer status for several jams Murder Beach and Right Coast brought the score to 89 to 44 respectively.

Murder Beach jammer M8T took lead jammer in the next few jams but also endured a couple of takedowns by both opposing jammer Shermaine Tank and Right Coast Blocker Malicious Megs. AC Skater debuted as jammer for Murder Beach Militia bringing the score to 108 Murder Beach to 63 for Right Coast.

Push Popp and Shermaine Tank traded off lead jammer for the next few jams with Hot Rod Hussy legally taking out Push Popp at her last time of the bout as lead jammer. Murder Beach’s Wicked Kitty debuted as jammer, grabbed hold of lead jammer and racked up 10 points in well under 2 minutes as she called off the jam before the whistle. The score was now Murder Beach to Right Coast 134 to 77 respectively.

The final few jams found some players in the penalty box leaving only jammer Shermaine Tank to gain points for Right Coast. Then with no Murder Beach jammer again, Chelle Be Evil was able to tighten the gap to 134 Murder Beach to 93 Right Coast.

And in the final jam of the bout as soon as M8T of Murder Beach Militia snagged lead jammer she strategically called off the jam not allowing Right Coast jammer Shermaine Tank any time to gain any more points. After some hard hitting action from both teams the final score of this very important match up was Murder Beach Militia 134 to Right Coast Rollers 93.

Jersey Shore Roller Girls are hosting a home bout in Asbury Park with some hard-hitting roller derby action on Saturday, August 28.

This upcoming bout will have the 2009 league champions, Murder Beach Militia, taking on the 2008 league champions, Right Coast Rollers. These two teams come face to face for the first time since the championship game in November 2009.

August 28 will have doors opening at 7 and the start at 8. You can expect a large mass of roaring fans, the usual pregame bagpipe entertainment, 60 minutes of skater on skater battles, with the family favorite half time Chuck a Duck event.

Advance tickets are on sale now for $17 at www.jerseyshorerollergirls.net for the Saturday Aug. 28 bout. Tickets are $20 at the door. Children under 12 are $5, and patrons with a military ID are $15 at the door.

JSRG All-Stars victory July 24

It was the Jersey Shore Roller Girls All-Stars against the Pennsylvania’s Dutchland Rollers Blitz who took to the track on July 24, 2010 at the Asbury Park Convention Center in Asbury Park, NJ. All-Stars led by Captain Toastface Killah and Co-Captain Shermaine Tank and Bench Managers Push Popp and Ricin Beans were ready to show Dutchland what Jersey Shore Roller Girls are all about. Dutchland Blitz, led by Captain Sistine Shrapnel and Co-Captain Spanish Incollision were ready to prove they would be a force to be reckoned with.

From the first whistle Jammer Ruthless Ness of the Blitz grabbed hold of Lead Jammer but it would be awhile before the Blitz held that title again. Chelle B Evil and Dodge AWOL of the All-Stars took Lead Jammer for the next two jams. All-Stars Jammer Dodge AWOL scored a grand slam by lapping Sukkubus Strixe as JSRG’s Hot Rod Hussy continually blocked Strixe keeping her in her place.

In the next jam, All-Stars Chelle Be Evil grabbed lead Jammer even though she was knocked out of play by Blitz blocker Treasure Chest. All-Stars held the lead in the bout with a score of 20 to 6. Ciri L Killer of the All-Stars scored a grand slam in the next jam with the help of blocker Toastface Killah as Killah took out opposing Jammer Ruthless Ness.

All-Star Jammer Dodge AWOL grabbed Lead Jammer to jams in a row against Blitz’s Spanish Incollision and Sukkubus Strixe making the score 35 to 10 with the All Stars in the lead. In the next jam, some hard hits were made by All Star blocker Black Eye Betty as she took out lead jammer Ruthless Ness.

Trade-off for lead jammer were made between All Stars Ciri L Killer, AWOL, and Chelle Be Evil for the All Stars and Blitz’s Sukkubus Strixe, Ruthless Ness and Blue Scream of Death for the next several jams making the score 69 to 38 for the All Stars.

Ciri L Killer grabbed a grand slam again Blitz’s Ruthless Ness with the help of All Star blocker Hot Rod Hussy. Hussy took out Ness clearing the way for Killer to rack up 15 points in one jam making the score 84 to 38. Blitz’s Jammers Ruthless Ness and Sukkubus Strixe both gained some points and lead jammer status in the next few jams moving the Blitz up to 46 points against the All Stars 93.

Toastface Killah making her jammer debut for the All Stars took lead jammer against Ruthless Ness even with two All Star blockers in the box. While later on Blitz’s Treasure Chest took out All Star Jammer Ciri L Killer as she made her way around the track as lead jammer. Killer then cut the track leaving only Blitz jammer Sukkubus Strixe to gain some more points.

Megan Whoopie of the Blitz was injured, but left the floor on her own two feet. In a later jam, All Star Ciri L Killer loses Lead jammer as she gets sent to the box for a back block, leaving only Blitz’s jammer Ruthless Ness on the track allowing her to score Blitz’s only grand slam of the night.

Dutchland came on strong, but the All Stars shut down their points with blocking by Hot Rod Hussy, Black Eye Betty, AC Skater, Belle Maul Her, Cool Mo T, Rollin’ Rican, Jersey Violet, Joy Kill Her and Lita Floor. The All Stars took the lead from the beginning and keep it all the way to the end with a final score of 132 to 98, despite the Blitz strong attempts in the second half.

Come out and see the JSRG’s next bout on August 28, 2010 at the Asbury Park Convention Center. Watch rivals Murder Beach Militia and Right Coast Rollers as they skate their way into the JSRG Season Championship Bout in November.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls’ all-star team will face off against the Dutchland Blitz roller derby team at the JSRG All-Stars first home bout of the 2010 season on Saturday, July 24.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls’ all-star travel team is undefeated so far this season, having played Harrisburg Area Roller Derby and Long Island Roller Rebels respective teams away. Now JSRG returns home to Asbury Park to take on their Lancaster-County sisters, the Dutchland Blitz.

The two teams will meet for the first time ever July 24 at the legendary Convention Hall in Asbury Park, a night that promises to be full of fast, furious roller derby action.

Attitude won’t be the only thing dished out that night, though. As always, the Jersey Shore Roller Girls – a roller derby league representing Monmouth, Ocean and northern Atlantic counties - have partnered with a charity for this bout. Clean Ocean Action will be on hand during the bout to educate attendees about what they can do to protect the ocean, while mere feet away from the Atlantic Ocean itself. Convention Hall overlooks the ocean and is on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. Clean Ocean Action works to improve the water quality along the Jersey Shore and north to New York maritime waters.

The July 24 roller derby bout also pairs with the Wonder Bar for the bout after party. Across the street from Convention Hall, the Wonder Bar will offer those bout attendees with a wristband no cover charge.

The roller derby bout itself will prove to be another exciting evening of women’s flat-track roller derby. Roller derby is the newest, extreme sport for women rapidly sweeping the nation. Roller derby has been re-vamped into a flat-track version of the old-school style of a bank track. This is the real thing, not an orchestrated match-up. Jersey Shore Roller Girls, a league which formed three years ago, skates under the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association rules and regulations.

The Anchor Assassins led by Bench Managers Black Eye Betty and The Nonster had a strong roster with Captain Ciri L. Killer and First Mate (Asst. Captain) Belle Maul Her. Newest teammate Kid Kill-o-Watt joined Shirley B. Brutal, Kimbo Slice Her, Kap’n Krush, Lita Floor Her, Bettie Clock’r, Dodge AWOL and Rollin’ Rican. Borrowed from Murder Beach Militia were Push Popp and Jersey Violet who rounded out the roster for the night as both relief jammer and blocker.

Bench Managers Toastface Killah and M8T led Right Coast Rollers’ tight roster. Captain Cool Mo T and Co-Captain Bash N. Onya along with regular teammates Chelle B. Evil, Shermaine Tank, Malicious Megs and Jack & Choke were on board. Returning RCRs HotRod Hussy, Big Rac Attack, Tam El Toe Stomper and Mojito Blackout created a solid skating roster. Murder Beach Militia players Wicked Kitty and Ricin Beans joined the team for the bout as well.

The bout started with a whistle and a bang with Right Coast Roller jammer Chelle Be Evil taking the lead jammer status in under 30 seconds gaining 6 points to the Anchor Assassin’s 5 points. In no time though, Anchor Assassin jammer Dodge AWOL quickly gained the lead for her team in the second jam. Anchor Assassins were able to keep hold of that lead for a good 15 crowd cheering minutes. The tides turned at the 15 minute mark as Chelle Be Evil from the Right Coast Rollers scored a grand slam by lapping opposing jammer Ciri L. Killer making the score 25 to 21 for Right Coast Rollers. Right Coast held onto the lead for a bit until borrowed Murder Beach Militia teammate Push Popp, acting as Jammer for Anchor Assassins, closed the gap making it 28 to 29 with Anchor Assassins leading by 1 point.

Seven minutes left to the first half and Jammer Ciri L. Killer got sent to the box for low blocking leaving only the Right Coast Jammer Ricin Beans to take the lead making the score 46 to 32 with Right Coast in the lead. But Ciri L. Killer at just over 2 minutes left to the first half scored her own grand slam and closed the gap making the score 46 RCR to 41 AA. The last few minutes of the first half were as exciting as the first, with a jam by Ciri L. Killer ending the half with a whopping 10 points shooting Anchor Assassin to the lead with a score of 46 to 51.

Both teams levied big hits and formidable booty blocks in the second half. Anchor’s Lita Floor Her and Right Coast’s Hot Rod Hussy each had tremendous plays for offense and defense, pushing opponents out of bounds or off their feet. Walls of blockers held back opponents for some exciting strategy and game play. At the beginning of the second half, the score remained within points of each other. Anchor Assassins would take the lead only to have Right Coast Rollers fill it in again in the next jam, and this continued until about 10 minutes into the last half. Jammer Chelle Be Evil got put in the box for cutting the track leaving only Ciri L. Killer to dart around Right Coast blockers. With only one jammer out there Anchor Assassins were able to move the lead up to 13 points, making the score 55 to 68 for Anchors. Next jam starts with Chelle Be Evil still in box leaving AWOL for the Anchor Assassins to gain more points. From here on in it was the Right Coast Rollers playing catch up. At one point with the help of borrowed Jammer Push Popp the gap was 25 points in favor of Anchors, the largest gap of the bout so far.

Anchor Assassins’ jammers Push Popp and Ciri L. Killer, both with grand slams, widened the gap to 28. This was not the end for Right Coast Rollers as they tossed blocker turned jammer HotRod Hussy into the mix. Right Coast continued to steadily gain more points to minimize that spread. But in the end it was the Anchor Assassins that prevailed with a final score of 125 to 97.

It was an awesome match up, with skating and teamwork that brought the crowd to their feet several times throughout the night. And it would prove historic for the Anchor Assassins.

Anchors immediately celebrated their first victory with a pile-up of team mates on the track and a celebratory dip in the Atlantic Ocean with the corks popped on the Champagne as Right Coast congratulated their opponents and league-mates in this exciting match-up.

Next two games which are sure to bring more excitement are scheduled for July 24 which is JSRG All Stars against Dutchland, and an August 28 matchup between Murder Beach Militia and Right Coast Rollers.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls are anxious for summer, being that this season is often the best part of being at the shore! Roller Derby is one way to make summer even better, don't you think?

JSRG joined the Asbury Park Boardwalk for its official kick-off to summer last week, May 23, as part of many activities going on at the boardwalk that day. Among the radio stations, music, and other activities, JSRG was on hand to celebrate summer early and to hand out info on the league and the next roller derby bout, June 12.

Any Jersey Girl worth her parkway change knows that Memorial Day weekend sets the tone for the upcoming summer season. Your local roller girls know this well, and that's why the Jersey Shore Roller Girls will be taking part in a summer kick-off show at the Brighton Bar in Long Branch on Friday, May 28th. Hang out with the ladies of JSRG as they show love for Decrepit Youth and Sasquatch and the Sick-A-Billies. Triple Deuce and Break Even will also be taking the stage, so when you're not rocking out, swing by and chat with us. The fun starts tonight, 9 pm at the Brighton Bar (112 Brighton Ave in Long Branch), and doesn't stop until last call. That's way past bedtime, so no kiddies allowed: it's 18 to enter and 21 to drink, ID required. See you there!

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls are stoked that our home turf of Asbury Park was named the fourth best beach in New Jersey by a contest run by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium/New Jersey Sea Grant and the Richard Stockton College Coastal Research Center annually.

JSRG doesn't just play in a city that has a beach; our venue is literally on the beach, overlooking the ocean. Asbury Park Convention Hall's grand arcade is even a thoroughfare for the boardwalk.

It was the non-stop excitement of roller derby that fans have come to expect from the Jersey Shore Roller Girls!

The sold-out home opener at the Asbury Park Convention Center on April 24, 2010 featured the 2009 league champs Murder Beach Militia against the Anchor Assassins, a team looking to make history with their first win.

The Anchors’ roster featured many of the returning powerhouses from 2009, a season where AA lost games by extremely narrow margin; plus for the April 24 bout new Anchors Kimbo Slice-Her and Bettie Clock’r joined their team mates to stake a claim against the 2009 season league champs, the Murder Beach Militia.

MBM’s roster is nearly identical to last season, with Black Eye Betty and Ricin Beans taking the helm as captain and co-captain, respectively. Both teams skated hard right through the last jam. But in the end it was Murder Beach Militia winning the bout by 26 points with a final score of 119 to 93.

Murder Beach Militia grabbed hold of the lead early and never let go. Keeping that lead however was not without a fight as Anchor Assassins gave it their all and more for every jam. Captain Ciri L. Killer and Co-Captain Belle Maul Her ran a tight ship that chipped away at the MBM lead, hoping to tie it up. But at one point, that deficit in the first half stretched to more than 40 points, thanks to MBM regularly securing lead jammer status and power jams.

Jamming for Murder Beach Militia: Ricin Beans, M8T, and Push Pop, each of whom secured lead jammer status with regularity. Hot on their heels (or wheels) were Anchor Assassin jammers Dodge AWOL, Joy Kill Her, Kimbo Slice-Her, Bettie Clock’r and Ciri L. Killer. In the first half, it wasn’t enough to stop power jams by Push Popp, who racked up 15 points in the seventh jam of the evening. Same with Ricin Beans, who scored 14 points in one jam in the first half. The half ended, however, with Anchors putting a stop to the MBM scoring, as Murder Beach earned zero points in the last four jams of the half, the score now 64-33.

The second half fared similarly, but with stretches of zero-point jams for Murder Beach alternating with big 7, 9, and 10 point jams between. In contrast, AA earned points in all but two jams of the second half, to consistently add points toward their score. But those passes saw 1 to 4 points instead of the double-digit passes needed to truly close up the score. Racking up the points for AA in the second half were mainly Ciri and AWOL, as the versatile Anchors’ other jammers built walls and blocked in their hard fight to keep MBM from gaining an even greater lead. Lita Floor Her, Rollin’ Rican and Kap’n Krush went for big hits and walled up to keep many MBM jams’ scoreless.

MBM’s roster knew all too well that even a 30 point spread at the half could end up in a win, since MBM did that very same thing themselves to win the 2009 championship game, and focused April 24 on not letting the Anchors inch the score too close.

In the last jam of the evening, M8T brought in four points to AWOL’s one, making the final score MBM 119 to AA 93.

The Anchors will next try to take down the Right Coast Rollers on June 12 in Asbury Park Convention Hall.

The exciting world of roller derby will descend upon the Jersey Shore as two local teams from the Jersey Shore Roller Girls league battle it out Saturday, April 24 in Asbury Park Convention Hall.

The female athletes of the Anchor Assassins and the Murder Beach Militia teams will serve up the fierce blocks and jams that roller derby is known for, as Asbury Park’s Convention Hall is transformed into a roller derby rink.

The event marks the first intra-league match-up for the Jersey Shore Roller Girls 2010 season. The teams have prepared a night of derby mayhem in a full-length bout where the women don their derby personas and showcase their skills as skaters hit, dodge and block to get through the pack and score.

Tickets are available at a discount rate online at http://www.jerseyshorerollergirls.net/. In addition, patrons who show a military ID will receive $5 off the $20 ticket price the day of the show.

Captains for both teams said that with at least three practices a week at Rollermagic Skating Rink in Jackson, the skaters have been working hard to prepare for an exciting combat on wheels. In addition, this home opener bout’s first whistle will be blown by a celebrity guest to add to the excitement. After the bout, the Wonder Bar will host the Jersey Shore Roller Girls’ after-party, with no cover charge for roller derby ticket holders.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls league consists of three intra-league teams -- the Murder Beach Militia, the Right Coast Rollers and the Anchor Assassins -- and one all-star travel team. Its members -- women of all ages and backgrounds -- fill the Jackson Skating Center for grueling practices several times weekly, training and scrimmaging with their coaching and referee staff.

Roller derby is the newest, extreme sport for women rapidly sweeping the nation. Roller derby has been re-vamped into a flat-track version of the old-school style of a bank track. This is the real thing, not an orchestrated match-up. "Green Eggs & Slam" -- Travel Channel's Samantha Brown features JSRG

In a November interview with www.OffManhattan.com; a guide to carless travel in the tri-state area, The Travel channel's Samantha Brown was asked where she would recommend a weekend without the burden of automotive transport. "Asbury Park...has its own roller derby team; I gave it a whirl in fishnet stockings and discovered my signature move—which gave me my handle 'Green Eggs and Slam'—I had bruises for four months."

The episode, which highlights the many glories of Asbury Park, is scheduled to be a part of season 3 "Samantha Brown's Great Weekends" and will feature The Stone Pony, several of our local businesses and restaurants (Langosta Lounge, Wonder Bar, etc...) and Asbury Park's very own Jersey Shore Roller Girls!

JSRG spent a day of production in Asbury Park Convention Hall, where the roller derby team holds its bouts throughout the year. The track was laid early and skaters arrived to practice drills that would become the source footage for voice overs and b-roll for the episode. Meanwhile camera crews caught league founders and captains discussing the sport of roller derby to Samantha, who would then get suited up in knee pads, elbow pads, helmet, JSRG t-shirt -- the works -- to learn the sport herself. Samantha got a tutorial in skating but was learning the position of blocker and jammer, too. JSRG sent in the skaters for jam after jam with Samantha trying out her newly learned moves in the pack. Rumor has it she even hipchecked JSRG All-Star Chelle Be Evil.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls will kick off their third season of womens flat-track roller derby in their amazing venue, Asbury Park Convention Hall.

The home opener is Saturday, April 24, when the Murder Beach Militia take on the Anchor Assassins.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls transform the marble floor of historic Convention Hall into a flat-track roller derby rink, piling fans into the general admission seating for roller derby bouts that happen throughout the year.

This is the third season for the Jersey Shore Roller Girls, a group of more than 70 women skaters who aim to not only become the best roller derby athletes, but also to bring the sport of roller derby back to the forefront of women’s sports.

Roller derby is enjoying resurgence in recent years, as the JSRG fan base continues to grow and major motion pictures such as Whip It hit screens last October, featuring on the sport.

League President Meghan Callaghan said she is glad JSRG is a part of the growing attention roller derby is receiving, but that she also considers JSRG to be a part of the growing resurgence of Asbury Park .

“Our girls do not just love playing the sport, but they really appreciate playing it in Asbury Park ,” said Callaghan, a Howell resident who is also among the league’s founders. “It’s especially nice to have Convention Hall as a venue that can accommodate nearly 2,000 fans, to have an after-party right across the street at Wonder Bar, and to have the boardwalk as our backdrop.”

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls pretty much call Asbury Park their home, added “Malicious Megs” Callaghan.

For every bout, the roller derby league also pairs with a local charity, collecting much needed items to help out the organizations. For example, the November bout is a food drive for the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean County. In one case, the food drive netted several hundred pounds of canned and boxed nonperishable food, Callaghan said.

The bouts are always held on a Saturday, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the game beginning at 8 p.m. Events are all ages, but 21 and over to drink.

Children under 12 are $5 and adult admission is $20 at the door. With military I.D., tickets are $15.

The April 24 season opener pairs two intraleague teams of the Jersey Shore Roller Girls: the Anchor Assassins and the Murder Beach Militia. Later in the season, those teams will each play the third intraleague team, the Right Coast Rollers.

JSRG also has an All-Star travel team that plays leagues throughout the country. This year, JSRG grew to include a second travel team, making the Jersey Shore Roller Girls one of the larger roller derby leagues in New Jersey.

You can catch the Jersey Shore Roller Girls at a variety of public appearances in January. Roller derby skaters will represent their sport in appearances ranging from bookstores, to hard rock concerts, to men’s expos.

The local roller derby team is first heading to Borders in Eatontown as the roller derby major motion picture, Whip It, comes to DVD.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls will be at Borders 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 26 to celebrate the release and to give Borders patrons the chance to learn more about roller derby as depicted in the film. Borders stocks both the new release as well as the young-adult book the movie is based on. The Jersey Shore Roller Girls, Borders and Whip It offer a multi-media look at the sport of roller derby!

Halestorm will rock the Starland Ballroom Friday Jan. 29, one stop on a nationwide tour in support of their major label release. The hard rock band’s song “It’s Not You” is gaining steam in part to a new music video that features the roller derby antics of the Jersey Shore Roller Girls. Skaters hipchecked their way around the band as they performed their single in center court of Asbury Park Convention Hall, which is also the venue for all JSRG home bouts. Come out to the Halestorm concert to support a great band and spot your favorite roller girl (and music video star) in the audience – or mosh pit, of course.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls will close out January on the roster of an exciting event at Asbury Park Convention Hall – 95.9 WRAT’S annual Men’s Expo. Come meet JSRG skaters at the expo, 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday January 30. The day-long event features everything from a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament, lingerie fashion show and other special guests. JSRG skaters will be on hand (and on skates) posing for pictures and signing autographs.

New Skaters Welcome to Join Roller Derby League!

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls welcome women of the Ocean, Monmouth and Atlantic county areas to join the league this season and learn to play roller derby, as new skater practices begin 9 p.m. every Wednesday at the Roller Magic rink in Jackson Township.

The 2010 season begins with new recruit practices every Wednesday, starting with Jan. 13.

The only requirements members must meet: be at least 18 years old and have proof of health insurance. The Jersey Shore Roller Girls accept skaters regardless of whether they’ve ever skated before, and the Wednesday practices are there to teach the basic skills of roller derby form and the game rules to “fresh meat.”

The league said it currently has an open-door policy where everyone is welcome and training is provided. In addition to skaters, the Jersey Shore Roller Girls are looking for coaches, and are eager to bring in local men and women to help with practices, with refereeing and with promotional events. The league is also looking for sponsors for its 2010 season.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls, with its three intra-league teams and one travel team, host home games in Asbury Park Convention Hall and have community and promotional events in locations up and down the Jersey Shore.

Joining your local roller derby league is a chance to learn a new sport, to exercise, to make new friends and to be a part of a unique group proud to represent the Jersey Shore and women’s flat-track roller derby: the Jersey Shore Roller Girls.

A major motion picture (“Whip It,” which was out in theaters Oct. 2 and will release to DVD Jan. 26) directed by Drew Barrymore and starring Ellen Page centers on the sport of roller derby.

The sport is back, and local women from the Jersey Shore have been putting their sweat and blood, and heart and soul to see the Jersey Shore Roller Girls roller derby league thrive over the last two and a half years. The Jersey Shore Roller Girls are thrilled to see roller derby get the attention it deserves, in the form of a major motion picture and ensuing media attention. Whip It viewers may be asking themselves, “Is there a roller derby league near me?” and the answer is a resounding YES!

There are roller derby leagues in nearly every state in the U.S., and the Jersey Shore Roller Girls represent the Jersey Shore – Monmouth and Ocean counties as well as northern Atlantic and southern Middlesex areas.

JSRG and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, this Sunday

Point Pleasant Beach will host a large-scale walk in support of breast cancer awareness Sunday, with hundreds of expected participants donating to the cause.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls will help kick off the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk through Point Pleasant Beach on Sunday, Oct. 18.

The American Cancer Society event will bring hundreds of supporters into the borough to walk in support of breast cancer awareness. Day-off registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. at the Arnold Avenue bandshell. For more information, visit makingstrides.acsevents.org. The event is may be in Point Pleasant Beach, but throughout the state and nation other communities are hosting their own Making Strides walks this weekend.

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls are just one of dozens of teams walking in the Point Pleasant Beach event to raise money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, the American Cancer Society’s walk for breast cancer awareness.

The roller derby team is skating the non-boardwalk portion of the walk route in Point Pleasant Beach and has gone pink for the month, changing their team logo from teal to pink – the color denoting breast cancer awareness.

JSRG has many of its skaters raising money toward its team goal, but the league has also invited fans to raise money alongside them for the walk. So far, JSRG has raised more than its $1000 team goal, and hopes to donate more through fundraising throughout October. JSRG has created pink-ribbon t-shirts and buttons, with proceeds from the sales of this merchandise going toward the team donation.

The team of JSRG walkers is being led by JSRG board member Jessica Ocampo of Howell.

“I started supporting breast cancer back when my mother was diagnosed in 1995,” Ms. Ocampo said. “She’s a survivor, but in 1999 I lost my aunt, and ever since 1995 my family has been big supporters. We all did these walks as a family in Staten Island for the last 14 years, but this year I started my own team at the Jersey Shore for JSRG, and I’m hoping as many people as possible come to support.”

October bout against Montreal Sexpos

The Jersey Shore Roller Girls All-Stars welcomed the Montreal Sexpos to a nearly packed house, the large-scale venue of Asbury Park’s Convention Hall. Fans witnessed a rout on Oct. 3, with the All-Stars holding back the Sexpos 137 to 65.

Throughout the evening the Sexpos, the Montreal Roller Girls B-team, grappled to get by formidable walls of JSRG blockers, or faced big hitters in the back of the pack, to find themselves earning zero points in many jams during the first period.

In contrast, the All-Stars jammers earned grand slams and lead jammer status while Sexpos blockers struggled to land hits on speedsters like Chelle Be Evil, Push Popp and Morguetisha “M8T” Adams. Montreal brought a roster of 10 for their 8-hour drive to Asbury Park, while JSRG enjoyed a full roster of 14 at home.

In spite of these obstacles, the Sexpos played a top-notch game that showed the versatility of players like Nameless Whorror, Karla Shnikov and Nut So Virgin Mary, who blocked or jammed all night and never seemed to tire.

However, the evening’s first jam was an indication of how the entire night would go: M8T earns lead jammer after lots of spills throughout the pack from blocking by both teams. With two Sexpos now in the penalty box, Sexpos jammer Beats Per Minute struggles to get through the pack and finds M8T has already caught up to the pack to earn a grand slam. JSRG’s Tam El Toe Stomper lands a big hit on Beats Per Minute, helping M8T to earn more points. An exciting first jam ends with 10 points for JSRG and a goose egg for the Sexpos.

The second jam would find each team’s most successful jammers facing off: JSRG’s Chelle Be Evil versus Sexpos’ Nameless Whorror.

Chelle Be was the night’s big scorer, earning 13 points on her first jam, thanks to her speed and her blockers’ defense. JSRG’s Malicious Megs throws a big shoulder into Nameless Whorror to stop her from earning more than 4 points in this jam.

After the third jam, which saw JSRG’s Push Popp up against Sexpos’ AK-47, JSRG was already ahead 28 to 4. The lead would grow significantly throughout the first half: it was 44 to 12, ten minutes into the game. The Sexpos would call a time out with 18:38 left in the first half to discuss strategy, and their blockers came back to land immense hip checks on JSRG. As a result, the Sexpos finally earn 2 points after several scoreless jams.

Later in the first half, Push Popp is called on a back block penalty, removing some obstacles for the Sexpos’ AK-47 to rack up points for the visiting team. The same jam sends Cool Mo T and Hot Rod Hussy to the box, earning majors for hitting out of play. With a full penalty box, the Sexpos gain an obvious track advantage during this two-minute jam, allowing them to earn more points as Push Popp rejoins the jam. But the score is 81 to 28 at this point.

Down two blockers for the next jam, M8T is stuck behind a big wall of Gale Storm and Trash N Smash from the Sexpos, giving Beats Per Minute lead jammer status, the first of the evening for the hard-working Sexpos. Unfortunately, as M8T catches up, Beats calls the jam off before either can score points.

As the first period ends, it’s JSRG 89 to Sexpos 34.

During the second half, JSRG adds Nonster and Ciri L. Killer into their mix of jammers.

Nonster and Nameless Whorror take the line for the first jam of the half, and despite blockers like Hot Rod Hussy and Shermaine Tank making life miserable for the Sexpos, Nameless Whorror manages to bash her way through the pack and earn lead jammer, but calls it off, seeing that Nonster is about to catch up. It’s a zero point jam.

The next jams see less scoring by JSRG, who fail to earn the double-digit scores like they did in jams during the first period. They are, however, still scoring, but so are the Expos. There’s jams where each team earn five points, then each earn four, and the score is 102 to 44 at 23:30 left in the second half.

Each team creeps forward earning a few points each in the subsequent jams, until Push Popp faces Beats Per Minute as the score is 112 to 48. Montreal blockers sandwich Push Popp and after back blocking into a Montreal wall of blockers, she’s sent to the box. Beats Per Minute adds those penalty box ghost points to earn massive points, scoring 9, after AK47 takes out JSRG Shermaine Tank and AC Skater. It’s now 112 to 57.

The next jam sees Montreal’s Ninja Simone jamming against Chelle Be Evil, as the pair booty and shoulder block each other to get through the pack. The jammer on jammer action continues with Ninja earning lead jammer before calling it off to keep the jam scoreless.

So is the next jam, as AK-47 takes a beating from both Hot Rod Hussy and Psychopath Lynn and lead jammer M8T calls it off before scoring. In the next, Chelle Be earns a grand slam for JSRG while Beats Per Minute is stuck behind Tam El Toe Stomper, and now it’s 120 to 57.

The birthday girl slips through the pack, even after seeing her teammates crash and earn some penalties. In spite of this, she laps the pack and Montreal can’t seem to get through. Ciri earns 8 and Beats Per Minute earns zero, and the final is 137 to 65.

Montreal, Canada versus Asbury Park, NJ

Jersey Shore Roller Girls are swelling with patriotism. Playing against a roller derby league from another country will do that to you.

But as the Oct. 3 bout – where the JSRG All-Stars battle the Montreal Roller Girls’ Sexpos in Asbury Park Convention Hall – might also be a chance to improve (?) Jersey-Canada relations, we thought to point out some facts about these Quebec folk so we can understand our cultural differences. You know, some “We Are the World, We Are the Children” type stuff before the hip checks and booty blocks begin 8 p.m. Saturday.

So brush up on your French (Montreal is a part of French Canada, after all), check out these facts, and get your tickets for Saturday (That’s tomorrow, people!). www.jerseyshorerollergirls.net

DID YOU KNOW?
-- Females from Canada are called “canadiennes.” You can sound French if you pronounce the last syllable as “ehhhhhh” but with a nasally N thrown in.

-- The Canadian flag has a giant red leaf on it. One of the few countries to celebrate foliage in such a national way, really. In fact, the flag for Montreal has a lily (fleur-de-lis), rose, shamrock and thistle on it. We looked it up, dude!

-- If your Spanglish speaking skills involve adding “EL” in front of English words, the French-lish version would mean adding “LE.”

-- But seriously, Montreal folk speak English too. Sheesh.

-- Montreal was “discovered” by French explorer Samuel De Champlain and would eventually grow to a colonial epicenter of the fur trade. They had quite the cache of pelts, those folk.

-- Because of Prohibition in America, during that time Montreal became a boon for Americans looking to bootleg alcohol. Thanks for keeping us Americans illegally intoxicated, Montreal!

-- The drive from Montreal to Asbury Park, N.J. takes approximately 7 hours and 4 minutes via I-87, or 8 hours and 47 minutes via I-81. (Thanks Google maps).

-- The Montreal Sexpos roller derby team are of course named after the now-defunct baseball team the Montreal Expos. The franchise up and moved from Canada and are now the Washington Nationals. (wink wink)
